For much of the first two decades of the 20th century, athletic boosters and partisans of agriculture disputed the fate of University land west of Neil Avenue. In 1903, the Board of Trustees tabled a proposal to move Ohio Field to a site south of the present stadium, as it would have hindered the construction of new agriculture and horticulture buildings. As a consolation prize, the Field was extended to Woodruff, and encroached another 100 feet westward into the woods.
