At 2 p.m. on March 9, 19 African-American students representing the newly formed Afro-Am Society presented then-Vice President of Student Affairs John Mount with a list of 19 demands. It was the first of many such sessions between students and administrators that spring, with a wide variety of student interests represented, such as the Women’s Liberation Front. The various interests soon coalesced into the Ad-Hoc Committee for Student Rights. Unfortunately, the various gatherings that spring bore little fruit; in fact, some meetings were never held because no one could agree on a meeting place. (See Timeline.)
