(Image: Stadium railroad, 1922) From July to October, 65 tons of steel supports were set in place, and 10,000 more cubic yards of concrete were poured. A short-line railroad was built solely to support stadium construction, eventually transporting 60,000 tons of gravel, 30,000 tons of sand, and 1.8 million feet of lumber.
