Groundbreaking
(Image: Ohio Stadium groundbreaking, 1921) Ohio Stadium’s official groundbreaking ceremony was held on August 3, 1921. More than 2,000 people filed in pairs down to the site from University Hall, the first thousand of them armed with shovels beribboned in scarlet and gray. Ohio Gov. Harry L. Davis turned over the first spadeful, followed by University President William Oxley Thompson; this was followed by digging en masse.
