Patches

By the late 1960s, the University had undertaken a program of repairs to Ohio Stadium, replacing a section of the stands’ deteriorated concrete topping every summer. Starting in the summer of 1975, the University took on a three-year stadium waterproofing project; seating was removed and old sealant was sandblasted out to permit the replacement of expansion joints in each deck’s concrete. Over the course of the 1970s, Ohio State spent $1.8 million on Stadium repairs, mainly on concrete. A $1.4 million project to replace concrete patches to the Stadium’s exterior failed; within two years new patches had crumbled. Repairs to the initial repairs took another two years.
