Together, the two bays held laboratories of the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences and the Personnel Research Board. The latter group studied the reactions of individuals and organizations to high-stress encounters by staging crises: Groups were accosted by tyrannical "bosses," exposed to fake floods and fires, even tasked with resolving international conflict. The Lantern facetiously treated the lab's television monitors, hidden cameras and two-way mirrors as Orwellian intrusions: "Watch Your Newspeak! The Telescreen Is On"
