The daily Ohio State Journal, in a dedication issue, expressed the significance of the new Stadium to the national profile of the city of Columbus: “This great stadium, one of the largest in the world, means a greater Columbus – so far beyond the dreams of those who founded a city in the wilderness and made it a Capital before it was even begun as a city, as to challenge ordinary human imagination.” The first game played in the new Stadium that September was against Ohio Wesleyan, with construction ongoing.
