(Image: Lighted Stadium Fund sign atop the Armory, 1920) Fund raising turned the campus into a hive of activity. Stadium workers eating lunch were treated to loudspeaker announcements of the fund raisers' progress; the Field Artillery Unit fired a round for every new $1,000 promised. The student stadium committee had a map mounted on the exterior of the Armory, with alumni pledge quotas for each of Ohio's 88 counties. A light bulb in each county was turned on when the county's pledge was met. One thousand lights encircled the state map; one was lighted for each $1,000 pledged. The campus' pledge quota was met on the fifth day of the fund drive; 200 students out of a population of more than 8,000 refused to pledge.
