Crew
“Our crew was a small one, but it had been carefully chosen from among many applicants.” (Thomas, p.263) Sloan Danenhower was chosen as the captain. He was a graduate of the US Naval Academy in 1907. Following WWI, he had resigned from the Navy Submarine Service to join Simon Lake as a designer and builder of undersea craft. Harold Sverdrup of Norway was the chief scientist and Ray Meyers was the chief Radio operator. In all, a total of 18 men comprised the crew.
