Description
  • Puck two-page spread from May 19th, 1880. Note inside of the plastic sleeve holding art reads: "In his effort to discredit the third-term movement, Keppler rarely attacked the popular General Grant directly. Instead, he focused his barbs on Grant's front men. In this cartoon, Keppler took a different track, portraying Grant as a man hounded into a third-term try by 'many selfish friends.' The visages in the clouds are those of (left to right) Senators Don Cameron and Roscoe Conkling, Congressman George Robeson, ex-Attorney General G.H. Williams, Senator John Logan, and ex-Secretary of War William Belknap." The art mirrors one of Gustave Dore's designs in "La Legende du Juif Errant."
