  • Puck tearsheet of a two-page spread from November 24th, 1880. Published at the office of Puck on 23 Warren Street, NY. Lithograph done by Mayer, Merkel & Ottmann at 23-25 Warren Street NY. Art is a reimagining of Hans Makart's "Venice Pays Tribute to Caterina Cornaro" (acknowledged by the note in the lower right: "Puck fecit, after Makart's Caterina Cornaro"). Depicts a woman, representing the U.S., surrounded by President Hayes and his cabinet, receiving gifts from the states. The U.S. is also delivered a majority for Garfield, the Republican successor to the Republican Hayes.
