Alger Graham (1898-1953) was an American photographer and aviator who served as a rescue pilot on the 1926 Detroit News-Wilkins Expedition in the Arctic. The failed expedition was headed by veteran explorer George H. Wilkins, who was trying to be the first explorer to cross the North Pole by plane. Wilkins and his pilot, Carl Eielson, were forced down in a blizzard and walked for three weeks to reach a village. There they were rescued by other expedition members, one of which was pilot Alger Graham. The Alger Graham Papers contain Graham's aviator log book and pilot's license, military memos and instructions, a Stinson Detroiter plane pamphlet, and other documents related to aviation, his military service, and travel in Alaska. The collection also contains negatives, photographs, and 9 glass slides of images from Graham's rescue effort and participation in the 1926 Expedition.
