Dr. Frederick A. Cook (1865-1940) is considered a controversial figure in the history of polar exploration. His supporters maintain that Dr. Cook, an American explorer, was the hero of the Belgian Antarctic Expedition in 1897, the first to climb Mount McKinley, now known as Mount Denali, in 1906, and the first to stand at the North Pole on April 21, 1908.

The Frederick A. Cook Society Records, Including Papers of Dr. Frederick Albert Cook, dated 1814, and 1865-2009, contains correspondence, meeting records, publications, subject files, articles, clippings, photographs and audiocassettes and videocassettes related to the history and mission of the Frederick A. Cook Society, as well as some materials created by Frederick A. Cook.
