Jessica Mitford was a writer and one of the famous Mitford sisters. Her exposé on the funeral industry, The American Way of Death, was a critical and commercial success when it was first published in 1963, and today is considered a classic. Other books by Mitford include two autobiographies, Daughters and Rebels and A Fine Old Conflict, as well as investigative works such as The Trial of Dr. Spock, Kind and Usual Punishment: The Prison Business, Poison Penmanship, and The American Way of Birth.


The collection consists of drafts, typescripts, proofs, galleys, correspondence, photographs, video and audio tapes, reviews, clippings and articles by and about Mitford and her family, interviews, lectures, and other archival materials.
