The Morton P. Beebe Oral History, dated 2002-2003, contains audio recordings and administrative information of the interview between Beebe and Brian Shoemaker of the American Polar Society conducted on September 15, 2002. This interview was a part of a series of polar oral histories sponsored by American Polar Society and Ohio State University's Byrd Polar Research Center Archival Program, with funding from the National Science Foundation. Major topics that Beebe discussed include how he attended and took photographs at the Japanese Peace Treaty Conference in San Francisco, California, without permission; his experiences serving in the United States Navy in Antarctica, including hosting two women flight attendants from the first commercial aircraft flight to Antarctica, visiting Mirny Station (a Russian research station), traveling to the South Pole, and his involvement with the coverage of the Commonwealth Trans-Antarctic Expedition; how he met Queen Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, the Queen Mother; and how he organized a reception in Washington, D.C., to celebrate the completion of the International Geophysical Year (1957-1958).
