The Walt McDougall Scrapbook contains a variety of newspaper clippings, letters, invitations, handwritten letters, invoices, and correspondence with newspapers, and publishers. The scrapbook itself does not include a date, however the letters addressed to McDougall range in date from April 19, 1905 to the 1930s. There is also several letters written French that date from 1820s to 1830s. The origin of this correspondence and there relation to McDougall is unknown. All the pages in the original scrapbook were loose without an apparent arrangement. Of particular interest, are Royalty Remittance Reports from Alfred A Knopf, Inc., many payment statements from various publishers and newspapers, a check stub describing a $100 gift from William Randolph Hearst. There is a letter with the name Woodrow Wilson on the letterhead dated July 19, 1912 and signed by the Assistant Secretary to Governor Wilson. Also included is a humorous poem by McDougall when he was asked by the Telegraph Editor to do a Mother Jones story for the "Sun."
