What Is This?
The OSU Libraries is participating in a beta project of a new pilot interface which:
- Features a simple search box
- Searches materials at OSU, OhioLINK (the Ohio libraries shared catalog), and libraries worldwide
- Displays the availability of materials
- Allows requesting of materials
- Finds research articles and provides links to full-text articles online
- Links to Your Library Account
- Links to reference services
Try it out! Your comments and suggestions help us improve -- complete a short survey or send us an email.
What else should I know?
What does this service search?
- Resources that are owned by the OSU Libraries, including books, journals, media, government publications, maps, and more
- Resources to which the OSU Libraries provides access
- Resources that are found in OhioLINK (the Ohio libraries shared catalog)
- Resources in libraries around the world, listed from a service called WorldCat.org
- Citations for articles included in the following sources: ERIC (education); MEDLINE (medicine and health); GPO (U.S. government publications); and ArticleFirst (articles from a wide range of journals in all subjects). Links are provided to articles available in full-text or print from the OSU Libraries
What else does the service do?
- From within the system, you can request materials from OSU, from OhioLINK libraries, and from other libraries in the United States
- Material owned by OSU Libraries is displayed first, followed by OhioLINK and the region.
- An advanced search feature which allows limiting by language, format, and publication date
- The ability to mark, save, and email citations
- Watch a 6-minute podcast on how it works, created by Tom Marker at the Prior Health Sciences Library.
Searching tips:
- Search features FAQ
- AND is implied between search terms
- The truncation symbol is a question mark (environment? Finds environment, environments, environmental, environmentalist, etc.)
- For phrase searching, put quotation marks around your words (Ňohio stadiumÓ)
- Limit your search by using the Refine Your Search features on the left side of the display window
What is not included in this beta interface?
- Notes about materials that are specific to the OSU collection
- Partially cataloged or uncataloged items
- Items that are still on order
- Some journal titles
- Some Special Collections materials
- Records for books on order or in the process of being added to the collection
- Article citations not found in ERIC, ArticleFirst, PubMed, and GPO
If you donŐt find what you need in the beta interface, try the OSU Libraries Catalog, Research Databases or consult the Subject pages for recommendations for finding articles on your subject.
