The Research Commons team includes faculty and staff from the University Libraries with expertise in a wide variety of research, digital scholarship, and data services. We provide assistance to and collaborate with researchers from across all disciplines to advance their research goals and Ohio State’s scholarship.

Head of Research Services 

Meris Mandernach Longmeier is the head of Research Services. In this role she develops services for OSU Libraries to support the research endeavors of all faculty, staff, and students at Ohio State. Longmeier sets the vision and oversees the services provided through the Libraries’ Research Commons, based in 18th Avenue Library. She supports subject librarians, special collections curators, and other faculty and staff in the libraries to anticipate user needs and brainstorm programs to benefit their research. Previously she has held positions at James Madison University (Harrisonburg, VA) and Loyola University Chicago.

Digital Humanities Librarian

E. Leigh Bonds is an associate professor and the digital humanities librarian. She consults with faculty and students on research and teaching, teaches digital humanities praxis and pedagogy, collaborates on projects, and coordinates the campus digital humanities network.

Geospatial Information Librarian 

Joshua Sadvari is the Geospatial Information Librarian at The Ohio State University Libraries. In this role, Sadvari is responsible for developing and delivering educational activities to support the use of geographic information systems (GIS) in research and teaching and for acting as a project consultant for faculty, staff, and students from all disciplines who are working with geospatial data, methods, and tools. Through his work, Sadvari saves researchers time by connecting them with appropriate geospatial information resources at their point of need and helps them to effectively use GIS in impactful ways in their scholarship.

Data Literacy and Visualization Librarian 

Sarah Murphy is the data literacy and visualization librarian and a professor at The Ohio State University Libraries. Murphy helps individuals and teams communicate effectively using various analytics and visualization tools. She is a passionate about Tableau and shares her expertise with students and researchers across the university. Murphy offers data visualization workshops, consultations and training through the Research Commons.

Research Data Librarian

Kelsey Badger is the Research Data Librarian and an assistant professor at The Ohio State University Libraries. Through consultations, training, advocacy, and collaborative initiatives, she supports best practices in research data management and sharing, tools and workflows for scientific reproducibility, and the discovery and (re)use of open and proprietary data sources. Previously, Badger has supported data management through positions in academia as well as state and federal government, including the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services and the U.S. Geological Survey.

Research Impact Librarian

Sheila Craft-Morgan is the Research Impact Librarian. She leads the development of systematic, scalable approaches that support scholarly research impact within the research lifecycle. Sheila also supports faculty, staff and students in managing, communicating and promoting the impact of their research projects. 


Publishing and Repository Services Librarian

Johanna Meetz is the publishing and repository services librarian at University Libraries.

Research Commons Program Manager 

Kristin Henkaline is the Program Manager for the Research Commons in University Libraries at The Ohio State University. In her role, she plans, implements, and manages services for the Research Commons. In addition, she leads the development and implementation of program policies and assessment and evaluation strategies for Research Commons spaces and services.

Research Commons Public Services Coordinator

Jarod Ogier is the Public Services Coordinator for the Research Commons at University Libraries. Ogier manages the Research Commons public space serving graduate students, post-docs, and faculty on the 3rd floor of the 18th Avenue Library building. He also provides support for the activities and events of the Research Services Department, both virtual and in-person.

Research Commons IT Specialist 

Brian Frueh is the Research Common's IT Specialist hosted within University Libraries. He provides overall technology support for the event, collaboration, and computer spaces within the Research Commons, as well as assisting with event video presentations, online conference streams and recording support requests. He works with library and university partners to ensure proper technology support is available for select events and individual projects.
