Open Access Publishing Agreements

Current Agreements

The Ohio State University Libraries has agreements with publishers (including consortial agreements through OhioLINK and the Big Ten Academic Alliance) that cover Open Access fees (APCs) at no cost to Ohio State corresponding authors for eligible articles and journals. This page includes a summary of each current agreement with a link to the full FAQ page for each.

Biochemical Society

Under this three-year Big Ten Academic Alliance agreement, Ohio State has has full access to the Society's journals and Ohio State corresponding authors have unlimited no-cost Open Access publishing benefits in all Biochemical Society journals.

  • Agreement period: November 1, 2023 through December 31, 2026
  • Covers Hybrid and fully Open Access journals
  • Eligible authors: Corresponding authors affiliated with Ohio State upon article acceptance
  • All journal publication types are eligible

Cambridge University Press

Under this three-year OhioLINK agreement, Ohio State has access to all 400+ journals published by Cambridge University Press and Ohio State corresponding authors have unlimited Open Access publishing benefits at no additional charge to either the author or the institution.

  • Agreement period: January 1, 2022 through December 31, 2024
  • Covers Hybrid and fully Open Access journals
  • Eligible authors: Corresponding authors affiliated with Ohio State upon article acceptance
  • Eligible publication types include: Research articles, review articles, rapid communications, brief reports, and case reports

The Company of Biologists

Under this three-year University Libraries agreement, Ohio State will have unlimited access to current and archive journal content and the Open Access costs of research articles published by Ohio State corresponding authors in all of The Company of Biologists' journals will be covered.

  • Agreement period: January 1, 2023 through December 31, 2025
  • Covers Hybrid and fully Open Access journals
  • Eligible authors: Corresponding authors affiliated with Ohio State upon article acceptance
  • Eligible publication types: Research Article, Research Report, Techniques and Resources Article, Techniques and Resources Report, Short Report, Tools and Resources, Methods & Techniques, Short Communication, and Resource Article

De Gruyter

Under this three-year University Libraries agreement, Ohio State has ongoing access to all De Gruyter's subscription journals and Open Access costs of articles published by Ohio State corresponding authors in the De Gruyter journals that offer Open Access and are eligible for Read and Publish agreements will be covered.

  • Agreement period: January 1, 2023 through December 31, 2025
  • Covers Hybrid and fully Open Access journals
  • Eligible authors: Corresponding authors affiliated with Ohio State upon article acceptance
  • Eligible publication types include: Original Papers, Review Papers, Brief Communications, Continuing Education, and Case Reports

Elsevier Hybrid

Under this OhioLINK agreement, Ohio State submitting corresponding authors affiliated with Ohio State at acceptance can publish Open Access journal articles in eligible Elsevier hybrid journals at no additional cost to either the author or the institution.

  • Agreement period: January 1, 2024 through December 31, 2027
  • Covers only eligible Hybrid journals (eligible subscription-based journals that offer an Open Access option). Exclusions include Cell Press and Lancet titles.
  • Fully Open Access journals are not eligible
  • Annual maximum number of articles available. 2024 calendar year limit of Open Access fee-waived articles reached. New allocation begins 2025.
  • Eligible authors: Submitting corresponding authors affiliated with Ohio State upon article acceptance
  • Eligible publication types: Original research and review type content (includes full-length articles, micro-articles, review articles, case reports, data in brief, original software publications, practice guidelines, protocols, replication studies, short communication, short survey, and video articles).

Institute of Physics (IOP)

Under this three-year OhioLINK agreement, corresponding authors at Ohio State can publish unlimited Open Access articles in all IOP journals that offer Open Access publishing, with the exception of the American Astronomical Society (AAS) journals, at no cost to the author and no additional cost to the institution.

Microbiology Society

Under this three-year Big Ten Academic Alliance agreement, Ohio State has full access to the Society's journals and Ohio State corresponding authors have unlimited no-cost Open Access publishing benefits in all Microbiology Society journals.

  • Agreement period: January 1, 2023 through December 31, 2025
  • Covers Hybrid and Fully Open Access journals
  • Eligible authors: Corresponding authors affiliated with Ohio State upon article acceptance
  • All journal publication types are included in this agreement and are eligible for fee-free Open Access publishing

PLOS

Under this three-year University Libraries and Health Sciences agreement, corresponding authors affiliated with Ohio State upon article acceptance have uncapped, no-fee publishing benefits in all PLOS journals.

  • Agreement period: October 1, 2021 through December 31, 2024
  • Covers all PLOS journals
  • Eligible authors: Corresponding authors affiliated with Ohio State upon article acceptance
  • All journal publication types are eligible

Royal Society

Under this agreement, Ohio State has access to all Royal Society journals and Open Access fees for articles published by Ohio State corresponding authors in Royal Society journals will be covered.

  • Agreement period: January 1, 2021 through December 31, 2024
  • Covers Hybrid and Fully Open Access journals
  • Eligible authors: Corresponding authors affiliated with Ohio State at article submission
  • All article types are included in this agreement (e.g., research articles, reviews, perspectives, reports)

Royal Society of Chemistry

Under this three-year agreement, Ohio State has access to all Royal Society of Chemistry journals and Open Access fees for articles published by Ohio State corresponding authors in Royal Society of Chemistry journals will be covered.

  • Agreement period: January 1, 2024 through December 31, 2026
  • Covers Hybrid and Gold Open Access journals
  • Eligible authors: Corresponding authors affiliated with Ohio State at article acceptance
  • All article types are included in this agreement (e.g., research articles, reviews)

Springer Hybrid

Under this OhioLINK agreement, Ohio State corresponding authors can publish Open Access journal articles in eligible Springer hybrid journals at no additional cost to either the author or the institution.

  • Agreement period: January 1, 2024 through December 31, 2026
  • Covers only eligible Hybrid journals (eligible subscription-based journals that offer an Open Access option)
  • Fully Open Access journals are not eligible
  • Annual maximum number of articles available. 2024 calendar year limit of Open Access fee-waived articles reached. New allocation begins 2025.
  • Eligible authors: Corresponding authors affiliated with Ohio State when requesting Open Access funding for their accepted article. The request for coverage of the APC must be approved between January 1, 2024 and December 31, 2026
  • Eligible publication types: Original Papers, Review Papers, Brief Communications, and Continuing Education

Taylor & Francis

Under this new University Libraries three-year agreement, Ohio State will have ongoing access to Taylor & Francis's collection of more than 2,300 journals and Open Access publishing costs of articles published by Ohio State corresponding authors in Taylor & Francis journals that offer Open Access will be covered.

  • Agreement period: January 1, 2023 through December 31, 2025
  • Covers Hybrid and Fully Open Access journals (Taylor & Francis, Routledge, and Cogent OA titles)
  • Eligible authors: Corresponding authors affiliated with Ohio State upon article acceptance
  • Eligible publication types: Articles, such as original research papers and review papers

Wiley

Under this renewed and expanded OhioLINK agreement, Ohio State responsible corresponding authors can publish Open Access articles in more than 1,300 hybrid journals published by Wiley and in more than 600 Wiley and Hindawi Open Access journals at no additional cost to either the author or the institution.

  • Agreement period: January 1, 2024 through December 31, 2026
  • Covers fully Open Access journals (including Hindawi titles) and hybrid journals (subscription-based journals that offer an Open Access option)
  • Manuscripts must be accepted for publication on or after January 1, 2024 in a Wiley hybrid (subscription) journal, or submitted to a Wiley or Hindawi fully open access journal on or after January 1, 2024
  • Annual maximum number of articles available. As of December 4, 2024, 5% of the 2024 calendar year allocation of Open Access fee-waived articles remains
  • Eligible authors: Responsible corresponding authors affiliated with Ohio State upon article acceptance for hybrid journals and affiliated with Ohio State at submission for fully Open Access journals
  • Eligible publication types: Original research and review articles
