Wiley Open Access Deal

In addition to Ohio State's current access to all Wiley journal titles, OhioLINK has negotiated a renewal of the hybrid Open Access agreement that had been in place since March 2022. This renewal expands the Open Access publishing benefits by adding fully Open Access journals (including Hindawi titles) to the list of eligible hybrid journals available for Open Access publishing at no cost for corresponding authors.

Beginning January 1, 2024 and ending December 31, 2026, responsible corresponding authors at Ohio State have the ability to publish Open Access journal articles in more than 1,300 hybrid journals published by Wiley and in more than 600 Wiley and Hindawi Open Access journals at no additional cost to either the author or the institution.

I am a corresponding author at Ohio State. What do I need to do to publish Open Access at no cost to me under this agreement?

Responsible corresponding authors must be publishing an eligible article type (original research or review articles) in an eligible journal to request Open Access funding via this agreement. Responsible corresponding authors should identify their institutional affiliation when they submit their original research or review article for publication and confirm their affiliation when their article is accepted for publication. You will need to be identified as the "Responsible Corresponding Author" in the Wiley author workflow to be eligible for Open Access funding. The article can have more than one corresponding author listed on the publication, but only one author can be selected as the Responsible Corresponding Author. They will be the only person responsible for signing the license, and whose affiliations will be used to determine their eligibility for APC coverage.

  • Hybrid Journals: As the responsible corresponding author, when your original research or review article has been accepted for publication in a Wiley hybrid Open Access journal, you will be offered the option to publish your article as Open Access via the agreement. The article must be accepted for publication by the journal during the agreement period (January 1, 2024 - December 31, 2026).
  • Fully Open Access Journals: As the responsible corresponding author, when your original research or review article is submitted for publication in a Wiley or Hindawi fully Open Access journal, you will be offered the option to publish your article as Open Access via the agreement upon acceptance of your article. The article must be submitted for publication to the journal during the current agreement period (January 1, 2024 - December 31, 2026).

There is an annual limit to the number of Open Access articles allowed under this agreement based on historical publishing trends with Wiley. Should the annual article limit be reached, authors will no longer see the option to request to publish their article as Open Access under this agreement. There is a 10% discount off the list price Article Publication Charge (APC) after the limit has been reached, for both hybrid and fully Open Access journals. Visit Wiley's article publication charges page for information about list price APCs in journals.
