OhioLINK has entered into a three-year Read & Publish deal with Cambridge University Press. The deal provides expanded access to important published research from Cambridge University Press and is the first such "Read & Publish" deal with an Open Access publishing component for OhioLINK.
Under this three-year agreement, Ohio State will have access to all 400+ journals published by Cambridge University Press and Ohio State corresponding authors will have unlimited Open Access publishing benefits at no additional charge to either the author or the institution.
Beginning January 1, 2022, and continuing through December 31, 2024, Ohio State corresponding authors can choose to make their articles published in Cambridge University Press journals that offer Open Access openly available at the time of publication at no cost to the author.
I am a corresponding author at Ohio State. What do I need to do to publish Open Access at no cost to me under this agreement?
When submitting to a Cambridge University Press journal, use your Ohio State email and identify your Ohio State affiliation. Most journals published by Cambridge University Press offer the option to publish an article as Open Access. When your article has been approved for publication in a Cambridge University Press journal that offers an Open Access publishing option, you (the corresponding author) will be offered the option to publish your article Open Access. In addition, Cambridge University Press will also reach out directly to eligible authors who did not select to publish Open Access, offering to convert their article to Open Access within a year of its publication.

What is a Read and Publish Agreement?
A Read and Publish deal is an agreement in which the publisher receives payment for reading, the subscription access to the content, and payment for publishing, the article processing charges (APCs), bundled into a single contract. The individual author publishing charges are funded by the contractual arrangement for those authors choosing to publish Open Access.
What is covered by the OhioLINK Cambridge University Press Read & Publish Deal?
The Read & Publish deal combines traditional subscription-based access to Cambridge University Press articles for the Ohio State community with immediate Open Access to Ohio State-authored articles. The three-year agreement gives Ohio State access to all 400+ journal titles as well as covering the Open Access publishing costs of articles published by Ohio State corresponding authors in Cambridge University Press journals that offer Open Access. Ohio State corresponding authors will be able to publish their articles Open Access immediately upon publication without paying article processing charges (APCs). The Open Access publishing benefit for Ohio State corresponding authors applies to articles published as "Gold Open Access," in either fully Open Access journals or hybrid Open Access journals.
When will Ohio State corresponding authors be able to benefit from this agreement?
Ohio State corresponding authors with articles accepted in Cambridge University Press journals between January 1, 2022 and December 31, 2024 are eligible to benefit from this agreement. To publish an article Open Access without paying any Article Processing Charge (APC), the article to be published must be accepted for publication on or after January 1, 2022, and on or before December 31, 2024.
Who is eligible to benefit from this agreement?
Corresponding authors affiliated with Ohio State upon acceptance of their article are eligible to have Open Access fees fully covered. When submitting, an Ohio State email address should be used, and an Ohio State affiliation should be identified.
Are all publication types included in the Publish agreement?
- Eligible publication types include: research articles, review articles, rapid communications, brief reports, and case reports.
- Ineligible publication types include: book reviews, discussions, editorials, introductions, letters, meeting reports, proceedings, and book chapters.
How long will Article Processing Charges (APCs) be covered by this agreement?
The new OhioLINK Cambridge University Press Read & Publish Deal is a three-year agreement beginning January 1, 2022 and ending December 31, 2024.
How are articles published for Ohio State authors under this agreement?
All published articles are immediately Open Access available globally to read at no charge. Articles are published under a Creative Commons license selected by the author.
