Art in Thompson

Foundation Stones

Set in the terrazzo of the William Oxley Thompson Memorial Library's ground and first floors are 49 metal plates documenting forms of written communication from around the globe.  Forty-five additional etchings are featured in the decorative framing of the Stacks Tower elevators. These examples include writing systems that have evolved over the past 5,000 years.

This brochure illustrates the location of the individual plaques in Thompson Library and the communication systems they represent.
