University Libraries offers a range of workshops to help students develop critical skills in finding, evaluating, and using information effectively in an academic setting.


First Year Success Series

The First Year Success Series (FYSS) provides engaging student-centered information literacy instruction taught by University Libraries staff. These sessions are designed to help students better understand the research process through engaging activities, games, and demonstrations. Students who attend also enhance their awareness and access to library specialists, resources, and services that help support research at each phase of the process.

STEP Workshops

STEP Workshops taught by University Libraries staff are designed with the STEP learning outcomes of access, community and self-awareness in mind. Offerings include:

  • Join the Research Conversation – Find potential research mentors in this interactive session from University Libraries and the Undergraduate Research Office.
  • Students as Creators/Consumers: Share your ideas, Know your rights – Exploring rights and responsibilities of authors and creators, as well as options for sharing a STEP experience
  • Seeking Multiple Stories: Information Skills for Global Citizenship – Introducing techniques for recognizing how information is framed and packaged as well as associated ethical and equity issues.
  • Be Data Viz Smart: Critique and Create Data Visualizations – Apply techniques for critically evaluating data visualizations using real world examples.

A+ Research

A+ Research features undergraduates providing research presentations and advice on the research process, drawing upon their experiences of successfully completing research and creative inquiry projects. Survey results show that 86 percent of student who attended rated the session as helpful to them.
