Public Domain Day 2022 — Jazz Music and Remarks
October 7, 2022 @ 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm
Free![]()
Join us for a live performance of jazz ensemble music in celebration of Public Domain Day 2022, the day in which new works enter the public domain in the U.S. The event will include remarks on the music, copyright developments in 2022 and Ohio State resources and events that promote musical works from the 1920s entering the public domain for the first time.
The Ohio State University School of Music alumnus and trombonist Dr. Jeremy E. Smith will lead a combo including saxophone, clarinet, trumpet, piano and drums, performing jazz works by Louis Armstrong, Lillian Hardin and others. This event highlights new public domain editions of Armstrong and Hardin’s Cornet Chop Suey and Flat Foot, transcribed and arranged by Alan Green from manuscript sources and recordings made in the 1920s. Questions about public domain, the composers and the music itself will be welcomed following the performance.
