Latest from OhioLINK About RFP Process for New ILS

Submitted by Karla Strieb:

OhioLINK is now concluding the Information Gathering phase of the ILS RPF process. In this phase, OhioLINK spoke with other consortia who have recently gone through this process and reviewed other consortial ILS RFPs. Listening sessions were held to gather feedback from a range of policy teams and directors including a special listening session about expectations for ILS business office functions. Further feedback was collected through a survey.

OhioLink has expressed appreciation to everyone who contributed to the Information Gathering phase of the OhioLINK ILS RFP. The listening session feedback and survey responses resulted in both requirements to be included in the RFP document and considerations for the evaluation of vendor responses.

If you’d like to know more about the Information Gathering phase, you can find a detailed list of the feedback received, a summary of requirements, and a summary of evaluation considerations on the Ostaff ILS RFP page (login required; contact Michelle Henley to create an OStaff account). A recording of the recent Milestone Update for the Information Gathering phase will be available shortly from that same page.

Connecting to OhioLINK ILS RFP information

Submitted by Karla Strieb

For the next two years OhioLINK will be first identifying a new ILS vendor and then migrating into the new system. Because this is an OhioLINK process rather than a University Libraries process, periodic updates will come through NewsNotes or other Libraries channels, but definitive information will always be provided by OhioLINK.

Here are some ways to connect to OhioLINK’s information resources:

  • Sign up for an Ostaff account by contacting Michelle Henley to request one. All employees are eligible for Ostaff accounts – you just need to get set one  up.
  • Once you have an Ostaff account login, visit the ILS RFP page for more information.
  • You don’t need an Ostaff account to sign up for the weekly OhioLINK updates. Click here to be added to the mailing list and get weekly updates on OhioLINK developments.

Get Ready! OhioLINK is Starting the Process of Choosing a New ILS

Submitted by Karla Strieb:

OhioLINK has received funding from the State of Ohio to migrate all OhioLINK members to a new Integrated Library System (ILS). University Libraries’ current ILS is Sierra.

Regarding this move, Amy Pawlowski (OhioLINK Executive Director) notes,

Replacing our shared ILS will improve security and stability— and moves us closer to the system envisioned in the 2020 OhioLINK whitepaper.

As OhioLINK members have proven over the last 30 years, when we coordinate shared solutions for the greater consortial good, good things happen. We look forward to collaborating with the member libraries’ leadership and the broader OhioLINK community to support the evolving needs of our users.

We have much planning ahead, from developing the Request for Proposal (RFP) to final implementation. Ken Burhanna, Dean of Kent State University Libraries and Chair of OhioLINK’s Library Advisory Council will work with me, OhioLINK staff and a statewide team representing our public, private, and 2-year institutions to make sure that we understand what our member libraries want and need in an ILS system.

If you want to know more about the ILS RFP and implementation process, Ken Burhanna, Theda Schwing and Amy will be holding two information sessions: Tuesday, June 28 at 10 a.m. and Wednesday, June 29 at 2:30 p.m. Watch for Webex details in OhioLINK listserv messages and in the Weekly Updates. All OhioLINK members are welcome to attend.

Ongoing progress will be shared through listserv emails, weekly updates and will be available on an Ostaff page with team rosters, the timeline, FAQ and other relevant information. You’ll also see a public announcement about the ILS funding later on OhioLINK.edu.
