The Publishing and Repository Services Department is organizing two events centered around our guest speaker, Dr. Jevin West on November 4.
Dr. West will be delivering a public lecture in the Research Commons from 10 -11 a.m., discussing gender inequalities in scholarly publishing and their implications. He will also be discussing his data set and how the data was obtained and possible future avenues of study.
Please RSVP via the Research Commons event page.
Dr. West will also be taking part in a discussion with the OSU Journal Editors’ Group from 1- 2 p.m. in the Research Commons about the opportunities and challenges that editor’s face related to diversity and gender. This meeting is meant to support editors in their work and to allow them to contribute to dialogue on an emerging area of study and practice in journal publishing.
Please RSVP to Sharon Sadvari. Please contact Sharon for any questions regarding Dr. West’s visit or associated events.
Dr. West is an Assistant Professor at the Information School at the University of Washington and co-director of the DataLab. He received his Ph. D. from the University of Washington and continued with a postdoc at the Department of Physics at Umea University in Sweden where he worked on the mapequation.org project in the Icelab. Jevin co-founded Eigenfactor.org with Carl Bergstrom – a research project that maps large scale citation networks in order to better understand, navigate, and evaluate the scientific literature.
This event is co-sponsored by University Libraries and Ohio State ADVANCE.
