Thank you Sarah Rothschild, who donated 22 original art pages from Howard Spielman, created between 1967-1970. According to Steven Bergson, editor of the Jewish Comix Anthology, Spielman was an Orthodox cartoonist who  wrote and illustrated serialized comic strips for the Jewish Press “about rabbis, King Solomon, ancient Israel and the legendary Golem.”

The content explored in Spielman’s fascinating comic strips held by the Billy Ireland Cartoon Library & Museum includes the establishment of the state of Israel, the formation of the IDF, the execution of Dov Gruner liberation of Atlit detainee camp in 1945, the 1929 Palestine Riots, and more.

Rothschild discovered these unique pages for sale on Facebook marketplace, and was thoughtful enough to acquire them for donation to our museum. Thank you for helping us preserve this unique work!
