Officially named by the Board of Trustees on April 6, 1962, in memory of Robert R. Scott, this residence hall and other North Dorms were built in honor of OSU’s war veterans. The building was part of a project that included Haverfield and Norton Houses; construction began in mid-1962 and was completed on September 12, 1963. It was first occupied September 23, 1963 and was an all-men dormitory.

Scott was killed in action in 1941 during the attack on Pearl Harbor, while he was serving on board the U.S.S. California. A native of Massillon, Ohio, Scott was posthumously awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor—the first Ohio State student to be given the honor in either World War.

Scott House is one of nine dormitories built on North Campus during the 1960s to honor University graduates and former students who were killed during war service.
