The building was officially named “The Jerome Schottenstein Center” by the Board of Trustees on February 6, 1998, and construction was completed in October of 1998 at a cost of $115 million.

Jerome Schottenstein was a businessman and philanthropist who donated $12.5 million to the university.

The venue has replaced St. John Arena as the home of Buckeye Basketball. It also houses men’s ice hockey, commencement, and concerts. The arena can seat 19,500 fans for basketball games.
