Built to replace the outdated Larkins Hall complex, construction began on the RPAC in 2003. Portions were opened in 2005, and the project was completed by January 2007 at a cost of $140 million.

The complex includes the McCorckle Aquatic Pavillion, the Student Wellness Center, basketball and squash courts, Cardio Canyon and other fitness equipment, an indoor track, and office and classroom space.

World-renowned architect Antoine Predock and Executive Architect Curt Moody collaborated on the project.
