Hitchcock Hall, built on the former site of WOSU’s radio towers, was opened in February 1967. It originally cost more than $2.6 million to construct and was officially dedicated on ACE (Alumni of the College of Engineering ) Day in 1967 along with six other engineering buildings.

The building was named to honor Embury A. Hitchcock, who came to OSU as a professor of mechanical engineering in 1893 and served as Dean of the College of Engineering from 1920 to 1936. He was considered an expert in natural gas and was involved in the early development of hydro-electric power in Tennessee.

The building serves as an extension to the Civil and Aeronautical Engineering Building.
