Bradley Hall
The OSU Board of Trustees named this dorm “Carolyn Bradley Hall” on December 13, 1954, to honor Carolyn Bradley, a professor in Ohio State’s School of Fine and Applied Arts who had died earlier that year.
Bradley received degrees from Earlham College and the John Herron Art School in Indianapolis, and her master’s degree in fine arts from the Escuela Universitaria de Bellas Artes at San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. Her love of travel led her to undertake many educational missions for the U.S. Department of State, including trips to the West Indies, Central and South America, earning her the nickname of “paintbrush ambassador.” She was a faculty member of OSU from 1932 to 1954.
Construction on the dorm began in the spring of 1953 and was completed in December 1954. It was first occupied by women in January 1955 and officially dedicated in May of that year. Though it was constructed alongside Paterson Hall and is part of Kennedy Commons, its cost is listed separately as $1,107,853.01.
