Increasing the Visibility of your Research by Writing for The Conversation

The Conversation is an independent, nonprofit publisher of commentary and analysis, authored by academics and edited by journalists for the general public. They publish short articles by academics on timely topics related to their research. Writing for The Conversation helps ensure the voices of researchers are front and center in the public square, and help researchers reach audiences in publications locally, nationally, and internationally.

Since 2014, 118 Ohio State faculty members have written 254 articles for The Conversation that have been viewed more than 8.3 million times by people in more than 100 countries.

If you want to be among them, you have two different opportunities to get started on Thursday, Sept. 12, when Catesby Holmes, an editor at The Conversation, will be visiting campus:

  • The Basics of The Conversation- this is an overview of The Conversation and how researchers can become authors as a way to increase the visibility of their research. This overview is open to all interested OSU affiliates and will be held on Thursday, September 12, 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. in the Research Commons (3rd floor of 18th Avenue Library).
  • Small Group Meetings with Catesby- if you already have an idea for an article, register for these small group sessions to meet with Catesby where she will provide feedback on your idea and help hone your pitch. Sessions will be scheduled for Thursday, September 12, 2:00 – 5:00 p.m.

If you have any questions, contact Jeff Grabmeier, Director of Research Communications at Ohio State at Grabmeier.1@osu.edu.
