Conference and Project Rooms

Please note for Autumn 2021, we are not allowing food or drink in the Research Commons.

The Research Commons offers one conference room and a number of project rooms for small group collaboration. Please review the space details below. These rooms can be reserved online through our self-service portal by clicking the reserve a room button below. For complete guidelines on room usage, please visit our room rules page. Please note that conference and project rooms are for group project work; reservations will not be considered for individual study.

  • Conference Room (#329) 
    The conference room has a capacity of 10 people. The room contains a large display and an array of camera and microphones, allowing for easy video conferencing, virtual slide presentations and collaborative work sessions. Also featured in the room are HDMI connections for easy connections with a laptop, as well as a solstice pod, which permits wireless casting through a laptop, tablet, or smartphone device.

  • Project Rooms (#325, #327, #342, #346) 
    Project rooms #327 and #342 each have a capacity of six people. Project  rooms #325 and #346 each have a capacity of four people. All of these rooms are equipped with TV displays allowing for laptop projection through HDMI connection and in room wireless solstice pod units.

Large Meeting Rooms

The Research Commons offers a number of large rooms for meetings and events. When not in use, individuals are welcome to work on projects or study in these areas. For complete guidelines on room usage, please visit our room rules page. Groups who would like to use large meeting rooms to host an event or meeting related to interdisciplinary research or research showcasing will find the reservation form by clicking on the appropriate room name below. Room requests are reviewed on the second and fourth Wednesday of every month, so please request in advance. Reservations are available during the week from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Groups will be responsible for arranging and re-setting their furniture.

  • Brainstorming Rooms (#350A & #350B) and Digital Visualization (#344)
    The Brainstorming room has flexible seating for 24, and with the help of our staff can be divided into two smaller rooms with a capacity of 12. The Brainstorming area contains ample whiteboard space, an interactive table, access to two PC desktop workstations and wireless projection capabilities for users who bring their own devices. The Digital Visualization room has flexible seating for 18, a visualization wall composed of four 55″ flat panel displays, and a suite of data analysis and visualization software across Windows, Mac, and Linux platforms.  Please note that this room is connected to Brainstorming B (350B) by a passthrough, which can produce noise transfer.

  • Classroom (#352)
    The Classroom holds 24 and is primarily used for educational workshops and training activities on topics spanning all phases of the research lifecycle, as well as events aimed at showcasing Ohio State research.  It may not be scheduled for regular course instruction.

  • Colloquia (#340)
    The Colloquia is the main space in the Research Commons, and holds 36 – 50 people. Programming and services provided by the Research Commons and collaborative partners have priority use of this area. Reservations for this space are considered if:

    • The event is open to any faculty, staff, postdoc or graduate researcher
    • Event content focuses on interdisciplinary research showcasing or training relevant to digital, collaborative, or emerging research methods 
    • The event can be cross-promoted on the Research Commons website with open registration
