The ABCs of Using Secondary Data in Funded Research (Workshop)

Are you interested in leveraging existing data to forward your research agenda and increase your chances of obtaining funding? Are you ready to explore the possibility of using secondary data sets in your next grant proposal? In this 1.5 hour face-to-face session, experiences researchers from the College of Education and Human Ecology will provide guidance on the use of secondary data sets in funded research and share their strategies for success. Presenters will cover the following topics:

  • Defining secondary data
  • Reasons for using secondary data
  • Available secondary sets
  • Differences between public and restricted secondary data sets
  • Funding opportunities using secondary data
  • OSU process for getting approved to use restricted secondary data sets

Presenters: Ann O’Connell, Professor, Educational Studies (EHE); Barbara Hodgdon, Graduate Research Associate, Human Sciences (EHE); Kimberly Lightle, Assistant Dean for Research (EHE); Sandy Reed, Associate Director, Research Methodology Center (EHE); Anastasia Snyder, Associate Professor, Human Sciences (EHE); Jen Won, Assistant Professor, Human Sciences (EHE).

This is the first of four workshops that focuses on Getting Grants Using Secondary Data. This workshop is for all OSU faculty, postdoctoral researchers, staff, and graduate students with examples from the College of Education and Human Ecology.
