The Area Studies Department offers a collection of historical and contemporary perspectives on the 100th anniversary of World War I, which united and devastated many geographically distinct places around the globe. Using library collections to represent their specific area, each librarian weaves a story of the economic, political, or human repercussions of a conflict that altered history.

The Libraries’ Area Studies Department is responsible for selecting library materials on and about Asia, Eastern Europe, Latin America and Spain, and the Middle East. This unit provides reference and research consultation, teaches students how to do research, and provides library learning experiences tailored to OSU undergraduate and graduate courses.
