Preserving History, Enabling Progress

Since it was established in 1965, University Archives has served as the official memory for the university and become home to several other significant collections as well. Today, in addition to university materials, University Archives is home to the Ohio Public Policy Archives and the Byrd Polar and Climate Research Center Archives, making it a destination among scholars and everyday history buffs alike.

Far from simply receiving submissions passively, the Archives team of professionals proactively gathers historic valuables that might otherwise be lost forever and promotes and enables their use by educators, students, researchers and the public. As times and technology change, so too do their tools and approach, such as capturing and preserving the ever-increasing digital content being produced in every realm of human activity. As social awareness has evolved, University Archives has intentionally sought to include the activities and stories of often overlooked groups and individuals outside the dominant culture.

By preserving irreplaceable artifacts and enabling people to access and learn from them, University Archives helps us as a society to understand history and ourselves. Your support can further this vital work by advancing several key efforts. This includes the addition of more oral histories to our collection, support to create an Education and Outreach Archivist staff position, Archives acquisition support and naming the University Archivist position.
