The University Libraries Space

The Library Wiki is organized into different spaces. You may already be familiar with one space: IT Help. CarmenWiki content has been moved to the Library Wiki in the University Libraries space.

Transitioning from CarmenWiki

Permissions and Restrictions

By default, all OSUL staff and faculty can log in to, view, and edit this space. Due to a limited number of licenses, please submit a ticket to the Hub if you have a student employee who needs to edit content.

If pages were restricted to groups in CarmenWiki, they will stay restricted in the Library Wiki. However, if a page was restricted to an individual user, even though you will see the name of the restricted user in the Library Wiki, the restriction won't actually function, due to differences in CarmenWiki and Library Wiki user accounts. If it is important to you to keep the page restricted to individuals, you will need to re-add the individual's restriction. Remember that page restrictions are inherited from the parent section's permissions.

New Page Locations (URLs)

If links were typed manually into a CarmenWiki page (as opposed to using relative page linking), they will be broken in the Library Wiki. You will need to edit the link

For example, a link on one page in CarmenWiki that goes to another page in CarmenWiki would look like this:

https://carmenwiki.osu.edu/display/libraries/page_name

The same page in the Library Wiki would have this path:

https://library.osu.edu/portal/confluence/display/libraries/page_name

Making a Page or Section Public

In order for someone outside the Libraries to view content, you will need to make sure the pages are not children of restricted pages in the page hierarchy

Please contact library.osu.edu/hub if you need assistance with this.

The Basics

How to Log In

  • Log in with your OSU username and password:

Add a Page

  • Important: In order to preserve page hierarchies, first go to the section where you want to add the page.
  • Click on the Create button in the top left.
  • You will see a blank page and can start adding content:

Restrict a Page

By default, pages within the Library Wiki can be viewed and edited by any OSUL staff or faculty employee. You may want to restrict a page to a group of users if the content is private.

Pages inherit permissions from their parent pages. It's best to restrict a section of pages rather than trying to restrict individual pages.

Check page restrictions

  • Click on the Lock icon:

Change page restrictions

  • Click on the button with the 3 dots and choose Restrictions.

  • A window will popup with options. You can restrict who can view or edit pages.

View the Page Hierarchy

  • If you want to check the location of a page in the hierarchy of pages, go to a page.
  • Click on the button with the 3 dots and choose View in Hierarchy.

Moving Pages

From the page hierarchy page, you can move pages by drag-and-drop into different sections on this page.

Sample hierarchy:

Edit a Page

  • Go to the page you want to edit.
  • Click on the Edit button in the top right area
