Sarah Casto

Sarah Casto is the Photograph and Paper Conservator at The Ohio State University Libraries. She is responsible for examining and identifying physical condition issues in a wide range of photographic and paper-based works in the Special Collections and performing conservation treatments to stabilize and improve their condition.

Before returning home to Ohio to join OSU Libraries, I spent three years as Assistant Conservator at the George Eastman Museum in Rochester, New York. I was Photograph Conservation Fellow at the Amon Carter Museum of American Art in Fort Worth, Texas during the Carter’s gallery renovation and photography storage vaults expansion. During my conservation education, I completed internships at the Art Institute of Chicago, The Better Image, the Smithsonian Institution Archives of American Art, and the Cleveland Museum of Art.

I’m proud that in my role as conservator I contribute to the good stewardship of the Libraries collections. I enjoy working with collections items that challenge me to learn something new in order to stabilize and preserve them so that they can be available for students, faculty and staff, researchers, and other patrons for as long as possible.
