Mission Statement
The Ohio Public Policy Archives collects, preserves, and provides access to collections of historical documents relating to the function and history of policymaking in the federal branches of the U.S. government and informed by individuals and groups from the state of Ohio.
Established in 2004, the archives is an outgrowth of the recommendation put forth by the Third Report of the Advisory Committee on the Records of Congress (S.Pub.106-52, Dec. 31, 2000) for the
“development of statewide Public Policy Centers that include a strong archival component with a focus on political and public policy documentation.”
The report stressed the advantages gained by centralizing similar collections at a dedicated repository, both in staffing resources and in the accessibility of collections to researchers. It also emphasized the need for good record management practices within Congressional offices and urged Members to choose a permanent repository for their records early in their term of office.
On June 20, 2008, the 110th Congress passed House Concurrent Resolution 307, “Expressing the Sense of the Congress that Members’ congressional papers should be properly maintained” and that members should arrange for the donation of their papers to a research institution properly equipped to care for them. The Ohio Public Policy Archives serves this function for members of the Ohio Congressional Delegation.
