Abstract

The author explores a rich task that engaged her high school geometry students in procedural
and conceptual understandings of area while discussing various student misconceptions that the task
uncovered. The author discusses revision ideas generated by research and interactions with colleagues
during an advanced methods course for practicing teachers.
