Libraries recognize faculty accomplishments

Annual reception acknowledges achievements

The accomplishments of members of the University Libraries faculty were acknowledged at the Libraries 2017-2018 Faculty Honors & Awards Reception August 16.

This year’s honorees included Leigh Bonds,  Hilary Bussell, Jose Diaz, Pamela Espinosa de los Monteros and Mary-Allen Johnson.

Bussell and Espinosa de los Monteros each received a “Teaching Excellence Award,” in a departure for the Libraries’ Teaching and Learning Committee, which took the unique step of recommending that two individuals receive the honor this year.

Bonds was the recipient of the annual “Research Excellence Award,” presented by the Committee for Faculty Benefits, Research, and Responsibilities, for her article, “First Things First: Conducting an Environmental Scan.”

Johnson was honored for her promotion to Associate Professor with tenure.  Former University Libraries’ colleague Jose Diaz, who retired last month and assumed the post of Associate Director for Academic Engagement and Research at Case Western Reserve University Library, was recognized for his promotion to the rank of Professor.

During the program, Vice Provost Jaggars also recognized two faculty members for honors received from outside organizations.  Beth Black, recipient of both the “Outstanding Faculty Program for Fostering Student Learning” and an Outstanding First Year Advocate Award at Ohio State’s “Focusing on the First Year” conference earlier this year, was applauded for her work.  Jolie Braun was recognized as recipient of the 2018-19 Barbara Van Brimmer Academic Award.
