The AI Fluency initiative at The Ohio State University is preparing undergraduates for a rapidly evolving technological world by integrating artificial intelligence into the curriculum.
As part of this effort, University Libraries and the Office of Academic Affairs have developed an AI workshop offered through the First Year Success Series.
Led by Michael Flierl, associate professor and AI Faculty Fellow, and developed in collaboration with Shereen Agrawal of the Center for Software Innovation, the workshop introduces first-year students to the fundamentals of AI and generative AI through hands-on exploration with tools such as Gemini and Copilot.
Student assistants Zoey Miller and Alyssa Leano contributed to the execution of the workshop, emphasizing the importance of building confidence, ethical awareness and practical fluency in AI.
The workshop encourages students to think critically and creatively about how AI can support their academic work and future careers, helping them navigate both the opportunities and challenges of an AI-driven world.
