  • In addition to including the full texts of the Old and New Testaments and the Apocrypha, the first printing of the King James Bible also contains a dedicatory epistle addressed to King James, an eleven-page preface entitled "The Translators to the Reader," a liturgical calendar, a fold-out map of the Holy Land (lacking in OSU's copy) and a thirty-page engraved genealogy tracing Christ’s lineage all the way back to Adam. An exceptionally large book (398 x 275 mm), the first folio printing of the Authorized Version was intended to be used predominantly as a lectern Bible in churches and as a showpiece testifying to the authority of the Bible itself, as well as the royal mandate that lay behind its creation.
