Visiting HRL

Hilandar Research Library (HRL) invites visitors of all ages and interests to engage with its collections. 

As a special collection of the University Libraries, HRL materials are non-circulating and may only be consulted on site in the Jack and Jan Creighton Special Collections Reading Room (Thompson Library 105).

Planning your visit 

Hours 

Reading Room appointments are required and available for scheduling during the following times:

Monday through Friday: 9:00 am - 4:30 p.m. 

Appointments 
Appointments are required. Please email thospcol@osu.edu to schedule an appointment. Appointment date and time must be confirmed. Do not visit unless you have received your confirmation.

Send Us a Request List
To find items relevant to your research, check the Library catalog for books and published materials or consult the HRL curator. In your request list, please include important details about the item, such as call number of a book or the folder title and box number of an archival collection. If you'd like help finding materials, contact us at thospcol@osu.edu

Submit Research Application 
A completed research registration and handling policy form is required on the first visit of the academic year. Please click the link above download the form and send the completed document to thospcol@osu.edu.

Day of your visit

Parking
Hourly visitor parking is available at the Ohio Union South Garage, about a 5-minute walk from Thompson Library.

Arrival & Sign-in
Our reading room is located in 105c Thompson Library. We will ask you to provide an ID and sign in upon arrival.

Store Belongings and Set-up
Personal belongings should be stored in one of our assigned lockers. All food and drink must be disposed of outside of the reading room.

We ask that you begin your research with clean hands. Hand sanitizer residue is harmful to the materials. Please wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before entering the reading room. Restrooms are located on the first floor on both the north and south hallways. 

While you conduct your research, you may have paper, pencils, a laptop computer or tablet, and phone at the table with you. No other materials will be permitted. 

Computer Access
Please bring your own laptop or tablet if needed, as no public computers will be available. Wireless access is available through WiFi@OSU. Instructions for setting up access can be found through our OCIO Department.

Wrapping up
When you have completed researching for the day, please inform the reading room staff that you have finished
