INTRODUCTION

William T. Vollmann, 1959-, Santa Monica, California. Educated at Deep Springs College, Cornell University, and the University of California at Berkeley. Vollmann is a complex and innovative novelist and journalist who has often mixed the two genres, and who often includes autobiographical elements in the mix. He is also an artist and photographer, and has included this kind of work in his books. In addition, he is a maker of artists’ book, and distributes them through his own press, Cotangent Press.

This collection is a continuation of OSU's archival holdings for this author. It contains materials acquired in 2004-05, but spanning the period from 1998 to 2005. Included here are research materials, notes, correspondence and drafts associated with books such as Europe Central, The Convict Bird, The Grave of Lost Stories, Uncentering the Earth, Expelled from Eden: A William T. Vollmann Reader, Whores For Gloria, and Rising Up and Rising Down; as well as numerous articles and a considerable amount of correspondence.
