INTRODUCTION

Jon Cone is a poet and editor from Iowa City, Iowa who became active in the early 1990’s. He edited and published a unique and eclectic journal, World Letter, in nine issues between 1991 and 1998, that included work by writers from all over the world. He started publishing his own work at about the same time.

This collection, donated by Cone, includes his own published works, and many other publications from the small press and alternative literary cultures of the period roughly comprising 1978 to 2007. It also includes an extensive collection of correspondence from a wide group of writers of that period. Cone is a great letter-writer, and this collection reflects that fact. Among the correspondence here is material from Stephen Perkins, Daniel A. Russell, Bill Keith, John M. Bennett, Mark Sonnenfeld, Irving Stettner, B.Z. Niditch, Philippe Bille, S. Gustav Hagglund, Francis Poole, Thomas L. Taylor, Andrew Topel, Jim Leftwich, Gilbert Alter-Gilbert, Julian Semilian, John Martone, Jake Berry, George Kalamaras, Al Ackerman, Todd Moore, Hugh Fox, Greg Evason, Ivan Arguelles, F. A.
