Historical Note

As of 2017, each member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association was required to appoint a Faculty Athletic Representative to act as one of five individuals authorized to contact the NCAA on behalf of its institution. The Representative assured academic integrity in the athletics program, fostered the student-athlete experience, and insured institution compliance with NCAA regulations. As a current member in 2017, The Ohio State University appointed its Faculty Athletic Representative through the Athletic Council and the University President. The representative served a term of four years.

Scope and Contents

The Ohio State University, Faculty Athletic Representative Records contain subject files (1923-1966) from the office of the Faculty Athletic Representative. Files include financial records, minutes, and materials on the National Collegiate Athletic Association, the Ohio State University Athletic Board and the Western Conference, later known as the Big Ten Conference. The collection also contains handbooks and programs dated 1959-1992.
