 Historical Note

Ohio State University held track and field events and classes as early at the 1880s. The first official Men's Track and Field Team competed in 1913. Although there were women's track and field meets as early as 1920, the first women's team wasn't established until 1978.

 Scope and Contents

The Ohio State University, Department of Athletics, Track and Field Records contain a photocopy of a track and field athlete scrapbook, a sweater, posters, and an Ohio Intercollegiate Athletic Association track meet contestants ticket. The collection also contains a range of publications, including brochures, media guides, and programs, most of which feature Big Ten championships. The collection materials date from 1884-2019.

Varsity "O" sweater owned by Louis G. Hill when he was a student at OSU. Also included are two medals: One that hangs from a chain has "Ormus Grotto Athletic Meet" and "1921" inscribed on the front and "220 yds. hurdles" inscribed on the back; and one has "University of Pennsylvania" and "27th Relay Race Carnival 1921' inscribed on the front. Hill served as captain of the 1921 Track and Field Team.
