 Historical Note

The Ohio State University held classes in military instruction as early as 1874. In 1876 the Department of Military Science and Tactics was established, later known as just the Department of Military Science. In 1916 a unit of the Student Army Training Corp (SATC) began on campus, forming the campus' future Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) unit. As of 2017, military science studies were part of the Army ROTC program at Ohio State University.

 Scope and Contents

The Ohio State University, Army ROTC Records contain historical narratives, reports, photographs, 16mm film, curriculum files, certificates of appointment, clippings, publications, and statistical data from the Department of Military Science, later known as Army ROTC, at Ohio State University. It also contains pieces of and complete military uniforms, trophies, plaques, and other artifacts.
